Case studies on blogging to prove the point

December 8, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I am in the middle of putting together case studies to show the benefits of blogging. I’ve now been in contact with two new blogging buddies and they confirm what I thought might be the case – Blogging can pay off. The first is a software developer who by chance found a post asking if anyone could make a recommendation on Product A vs Product B (Product A being the software of said developer). Developer approached his top client and said, someone in blog land has posted this question, can you respond?

Within minutes client of developer replied to the post reinforcing the benefits of Product A and how beneficial it had been for client’s firm. Within a short time there were four or five new posts reinforcing what Client had said, none of the posts acknowledging Product B.

The next week an order was placed for multiple licences of Product A, the software developer tongue in cheek asked “And how did you come across our product?”

Story Two is of a Change Management Consutant. He was a fairly early adopter of blogging in the consulting world (for some reason management consultants have been reticent to adopt the blogging technology). Blogging has led to new business partners, new clients for him. “When we meet them face to face and have a conversation they go to the website so it is more of a reinforcement”.

Blogging has increased traffic to his website (they get 30-40,000 visitors per month). For him blogging is the begnning of a conversation. Not many consulting companies are willing to have that open conversation about what they do. For a case study showing BLOGGING SUCCESS, BLOGGING GENIUS, see a Blog in the UK called The English Cut posted by a tailor in England. He talks about how to size up your suit. His business has grown because he has demonstrated to the world that he is an expert in his field.

Putting blogging in Context

What a great post by Maggie Fox, putting blogging in context. It’s not just about sales and PR, it’s about open, honest dialog. And it’s very slowly catching on down here in Australia. To all of us grappling with what blogging is all about, here’s a great read from Maggie:

“I guess my point is this – here at SMG (and I lead by example in this)
we strive to be the associate. The honest, up-front tell-it-like-it-is
partner to our clients. I have actually had occasions on which I have
told clients that they need to slave part of a budget earmarked for our
work to another supplier in order to really create a project that will
have legs and cost them less in the long run.”

To your success. Miles
